There are seven main energy centres (chakras) of the body. These chakras are like spirals of energy, each one relating to the others. Each chakra has certain tasks and qualities allowing it to affect or balance adjacent chakras. Blocked energy or imbalances in any of the chakras can often lead to physical dis-ease so it's important to understand what each one represents and what we can do to keep this energy flowing freely.
The CROWN chakra at the top of the head - universal consciousness, beauty, creativity and inspiration, is governed by the colour Violet or purple.
The BROW chakra or 3rd eye is in the centre of the forehead - intuition, mysticism and understanding, and is governed by the colour Indigo.
The THROAT chakra at the base of the throat - communication, knowledge, health and decisiveness, is governed by the colour Turquoise.
The HEART chakra - balance, unconditional love and self control, is governed by the colour Green.
The SOLAR PLEXUS chakra - wisdom, clarity and self-esteem, is situated below the ribs and is governed by the colour Yellow.
The SACRAL chakra - purifying, happiness, confidence and and resourcefulness, is situated in the lower abdomen and is governed by the colour Orange.
The BASE chakra - vitality, courage and self esteem, root of collective consciousness is situated at the base of the spine and is governed by the colour Red.
