It's an understandable desire prevalent amongst those who come for a personal channelling session to know what it is that they are here for, most usually expressed as "What's my purpose?" It should be understood that by 'purpose', they never mean "What's the meaning of life".
Instead, it's the somewhat less complex and much more personal "What are the specific things I have to accomplish during this lifetime?". It's not a question that usually elicits a direct answer, and here's why.
A lifetime is made up of many purposes, not just one. Those purposes will always relate to the expansion of consciousness on the part of each and every individual, and what those 'expansions' are will always be aspects of experience, relationship or service, coupled with the exercise of freewill. They will alter from lifetime to lifetime (assuming that the individual has been able to learn from the lessons of previous lifetimes and has not gotten themselves into a 'karmic loop'), and from soul level to soul level. They will become progressively more challenging, and they are utterly unique to the individual. The same goes for all, and were the etheric to spell out for each and every person what their 'purposes' are, it would be utterly self defeating in that it would not allow the individual the opportunity to meet their challenges and (more importantly) respond accordingly without the benefit of knowledge aforethought.
To express this slightly differently, if you knew what challenges you were due to be facing, they wouldn't be nearly as challenging, would they? Plus, if you lived your life in anticipation of that criteria against which you were supposed to give an account of yourself, your learning, your choices and your right to exercise your freewill would be massively compromised!
Only on a limited number of occasions do the etheric reveal what a person's purpose is. These are limited to those times when an individual is already embroiled in said purpose and requires clarification; or when the purpose is of such complexity that it needs explanation by a channel, and the method of learning of that purpose was predetermined to be via said channel. This is a phenomenon that I have only come across once since I began channeling.
In my experience, a lot of the concern and angst that people seem to feel about not knowing their purpose stems from one of three reasons.
1.The person is afraid that they'll miss their purpose and thus fail on whatever leg of their ascension journey they are upon in this lifetime.
2.They feel a sense of aimlessness and believe that they really should be 'making a difference'.
3. They believe that they are destined to do something 'big' and are disappointed with the way their life has evolved so far.
Of the three, the third is probably the least common, but it's sometimes combined with number two and the ego jockeys for control of which one they'll actually admit to. The first outstrips the others in frequency, but because it is fear based, is almost more insidious for the individual.
Perhaps the problem of not knowing our purpose lies in the fact that we often conceive of purposes (per se) as being grandiose and on an average person's scale, 'important'; plus we don't realise the extent to which our purposes are so well defined and mapped out for us that we should never have to worry about them! Here's AA Michael's take on finding your purpose.
"It should not be assumed that the importance of an individual's purpose in any one lifetime is proportionate to its scope and societal impact. It is always relative to the needs of the individual, and as they progress across the stages of soul development, increasingly to the needs of those members of their soul family around them. A purpose my be sustained throughout the majority of a lifetime, or it may find its fulfillment in seconds. It may relate to that which effects a major section of the population, or one specific individual only. It may require what others would perceive as considerable effort (yet would appear as a natural and straightforward progression of their lives for the individual) or it may be achieved without any awareness of anything extraordinary having occurred at all. In all instances, its importance to those concerned is of equal value. Therefore, to adjudge the significance of a purpose on the basis of a criteria which has no bearing or relevance to the ascension pathway of the individual is both erroneous and potentially damaging.
Irrespective of the nature of the purpose to be performed, beings of the etheric have as one of their primary functions and concerns the mandate to ensure that each and every Incarnate individual arrives at the point during their lifetime where their (numerous) purposes present themselves as the opportunities for the demonstration of either the learning or exercise of mastery that they truly are. In this, a purpose may be regarded as inescapable. Whether or not the individual then rises to the challenge, embraces the learning or simply decides to walk away from what has been predetermined by them, for them, is simply a matter of choice. If a purpose is not met and fulfilled, there is no recrimination or judgement. The opportunity will represent itself on another occasion, and although this may not be until another lifetime has been undertaken, this should not be viewed as a negative."
In other words, chasing after your purpose is an act of futility. It may not be big, it may not be grand, but it is important to you and however many others it effects. It's going to find you irrespective of what you do, so don't worry about it!
